Committees

Committees play a vital role in maintaining our community, preserving property values, and creating opportunities for neighbors to connect. Residents are encouraged to learn more about each committee’s work and consider getting involved.

Social Activities & Events Committee

The Montevideo Improvement Association is committed to providing activities and events that bring us together as neighbors and as a community. The committee is actively seeking members to help coordinate activities for the entire community to participate in. If you are interested, please contact the Board.

Facilities Committee

Many of the facilities on our shared MIA clubhouse and pool grounds are in need of repair or replacing or upgrading.

A facilities committee is working on a survey to send out to residents to get feedback on priorities for improvements of our shared facilities. If you are interested in getting involved with this committee, please let the Board know at board@miahomeowners.com.

Architectural Review Committee

Background

The original Montevideo CCRs from 1968 established an architectural committee. Due to changes in state and local laws, the Association consulted with the attorney in 2022 and were told to re-implement a process so that the community can conform to the current state and local laws, and adhere to the CCRs and Community Handbook when making any exterior modifications to their home. The CCRs and Community Handbook place restrictions and limitations on the types of exterior modifications to any of the 400 homes in the neighborhood. These modifications include ADUs, Solar Panels, fencing, and height restrictions on additions, and other modification that impact neighbors quality of life. The architectural review committee approves modifications based on the CCRs and Community Handbook before construction begins but after general concepts or plans have been created. It the responsibility of the homeowner to read and understand the latest guidelines from the CCRs and Community Handbook and provide them to the hired architects and contractors prior to starting the design process. The Architectural Review Committee does not retroactively review projects. Projects that are found to be under construction without approval and that receive a complaint from an impacted neighbor must stop construction and seek approval and may be fined.

Process

  1. Submit Architectural Review Request form to Architectural Review Committee through the board email, with drawings of proposed exterior modifications to the home.
  2. Homeowner communicates and shares drawings of proposed changes with impacted neighbors
  3. Neighbors sign the Impacted Neighbor form stating they were informed of proposed changes
  4. Architectural Review Committee reviews form, drawings, and impacted neighbor form.
  5. The Committee may approve or deny the application. Denials will include the reason and may include suggestions for how to modify the project to be approved.
